About the Show

In the heart of Sunnyside, where the skyline rises ever higher, a diverse group of lifelong residents face the impending tides of change. As their neighborhood transforms, they grapple with memories of a vibrant past while confronting the uncertainties of an evolving future.

As the locals are faced with the arrival of newcomers, the invisibility that often accompanies growing older is exposed, and the locals must decide what they’re willing to fight for and what they’re ready to let go.  “Penny Local” captures the essence of a neighborhood on the brink, explores the complexities of aging and identity, and celebrates the resilience of the vibrant borough of Queens in the face of inevitable change.

Lindsay Timmington is a 2024 Queens Arts Fund grant recipient who is proud to represent the borough of Queens, and to bring a staged reading of “Penny Local” - a new play in development - to Sunnyside in December 2024.
